Drumming & Drum Polishing

Surface Treatment

Drum polishing machine

Process:

The parts are placed in a drum together with special abrasive media and a liquid. When the machine is started, a continuous interaction between three basic elements takes place:

  • Abrasive media (chips): These are small ceramic pieces. Through constant movement, these chips rub intensively against the product to process the material.
  • Water and compound: Water is continuously mixed with a liquid cleaning agent (the compound). This mixture dissolves greases, flushes away loosened debris and metal shavings, and ensures that the chips remain clean and abrasive.
  • Movement: The drum vibrates. This causes the parts and the chips to roll and rub against each other incessantly.

Functions:

  • Degreasing and cleaning: Specific compounds remove oils and greases left over from previous operations (such as cutting or milling). Rust and surface dirt are also completely washed away.
  • Deburring and radiusing: Sharp cutting edges, burrs, and rough corners are uniformly smoothed down. The machine can even reach the insides of holes and complex recesses.
  • Polishing: By switching to finer, non-abrasive polishing media after the deburring stage, the surface of the parts can be finished to a high-gloss result.

Benefits:

  • Significant cost and time savings: Large batches of parts are processed fully automatically. Manual filing, brushing, or sanding is no longer required.
  • Perfectly uniform results: Because the chips surround the product from every side, every corner, hole, and surface receives the exact same intensive treatment. This ensures a consistent, reproducible quality that is impossible to match by hand.
